Wiki is a community where users can create, share, collaborate and edit about any topic, if it’s existing, people can change it, to a new version or go back to any version before the current one; if it is not, people can create it. Wiki is a continuous on-going process, the content is always changing. The discussion page allow users to collaborate the topic, because wiki is not only written by a single person, the information is more objective compare to blogs, it is also more reliable because every topic in wiki has a list of notes, references and sources which allow readers to trace back. All users are created equal in wiki, since everybody can do anything in wiki, sometimes it can be too much information and the content becomes out of focus, some other good things about wiki: in many languages and ad free.
Blog has more authority and promoting capacity compare to wiki: the topic, message, ability to comment and presentation are chosen by the author, the blogger has full control of what s/he want to see seen/ heard in order to spread the message out; users can only read the post and if possible, comment on it. Blog is also on-going but not over the same topic, but the blogger’s posts. Blog is all about personal experience and opinion, therefore, unlike wiki, references are not necessary, the ultimate sources of the topic it the blogger him/herself. If the blogger doesn’t like any content in the blog, s/he can delete it and users can find no trace of it even with archives.
Importance of convergence in today’s networked world.
The perfect line is the lecture title: The driving force behind the new media, just like the “invisible hand” in the free market. How can it be more different? I can totally just replace a few words of the explanation of “invisible hand” in order to explain the importance of convergence to new media. Watch this…
Convergence (invisible hand) is the driving force behind the new media (free market), convergence (invisible hand) is the self-regulating nature of the new media (marketplace). In the networked world (free market), an individual pursuing his own self-interest tends to also promote the good of his community as a whole through a principle that we call “convergence” (invisible hand), each individual makes maximum contribution to his interest area(revenue) for himself maximizes the total contribution(revenue) of new media (society) as a whole. Individual intends only his own interest, and by directing the content (industry) in such a manner as its produce may be the greatest original production (value). By creating the content of (pursuing) his own interest he frequently promotes that of the new media (society) more effectually than when he really intends to promote it. It’s a form of empowerment.

How can blog be used for collaboration:
In blogsphere, collaboration can happened through user generated commentary, links to other blogs, and on Technorati, where someone blog about your post(see screen shots below), and chat box with the blog for conversations, or simply ask a question, raise an issue, make a statement in your blog.

New use for wiki:
I think tagging would be a good idea, just like tags of pictures on flickr/ facebook, on YouTube videos, labels in Gmail or sites on delicious, so users can filter content by keywords and makse easy to find relevant materials.
